The most generic news report ever
Thanks to Heather for sending this to me. I’ve worked in the media for a long time and I’ve always been amazed by the sheep-like thinking that’s prevalent in the business. Consultants must have a secret society that meets regularly to gleefully come up with the newest b.s. to sell to the media. Since we live in a visual age, this is a perfect example of something that has driven me nuts for years. The same formulaic presentations by every media outlet in the world. And whoever decided that making sure that meaningless hand gestures were genius? Well, this clip IS genius. And funny. Now change.

Zach Galafianakis Absolut Vodka ad
From the NY Times magazine.
Of all the Galifianakis clips, gags and sketches currently in Internet orbit, none have done more to cement his reputation as a leader of the comic avant-garde, curiously enough, than a series of three ads in 2008 for Absolut vodka. “This advertising firm from Sweden called me out of the blue and asked me to do an ad,” Galifianakis said. “The one request they had was to not make it look too ’80s, since Absolut is perceived as kind of an ’80s brand.” He paused there for a moment, clearly savoring the memory. “That’s what gave us the idea to make the skits a kind of homage to ‘The Golden Girls.’”
