Central Brooklyn CSA July 28, 2010

Here’s a photo of our share from the Central Brooklyn CSA on Wednesday July 28. Beautiful green peppers for the first time this season. As well, we received two types of lettuce, leeks, oregano, corn, beets, red potatoes, carrots and zucchini. The fruit share (which I forgot to pick up!) consisted of plums, nectarines and peaches. And the terrific dozen eggs.

For you Central Brooklyn CSA members, did you know that there is a Planning Team which works on tasks involving the direction, and day-to-day running of the CSA?  If not, we invite you to attend our next meeting on Thursday, August 5th.  We’ll be meeting at 7 PM at LaunchPad, a meeting space at 721 Franklin Ave (on the corner of Park Place).  At this meeting we will be discussing the direction of the CSA, including newsletter design, event planning, volunteer coordination, farmer communication, and community building.

Getting involved with the Planning Team is a great way to fulfill your volunteer hours if you are unable to volunteer at distribution.  If you have any feedback on your experience with the CSA, or if you would just like to be more involved, please consider attending!  Any questions can be fielded to Maia at CentralBrooklynCSA@gmail.com, or to J.T. at jtcrockett@gmail.com.

Central Brooklyn CSA

I just finished my first volunteer session at the Central Brooklyn CSA. It was a fun two hours working with Maia. Today’s selection included two pounds of zucchini. We had a mixture of the long typical shape, and round zucchini, which most of us had never seen before. It will be interesting to see if there’s a difference in taste. The beet people (I’m not one of them) were in ecstasy when they saw today’s harvest. I traded kale for a second bunch of beets, because Laurie loves them and we’re kind of sick of kale. The lettuce, garlic, onions, spinach and oregano were terrific looking, but the carrots looked SO good. And the eggs, well, the eggs are always incredible. I won’t be able to report on next week’s haul because we’ll miss it, but I look forward to July 14th’s bounty.

Dinner and Brooklyn CSA

This is our first allotment of vegetables and eggs from the Central Brooklyn CSA (community supported agriculture) which comes from the farm of Martin and Gaudencia Rodriguez of MimoMex Farm. Laurie created a delicious meal using some of the items.
